- Anything about quality. We publish facts; we do not rate lawyers
If a name is not found, ask which firm the person practises at and look that firm up — a lawyer who cannot name a registered firm is the thing worth pausing over. For anything you intend to rely on, check the Malaysian Bar’s own directory as the official record.

- How do I check whether a Malaysian lawyer is real?
- Search their name above. Every one of the 25,682 advocates & solicitors listed here appears on the Malaysian Bar's own legal directory, together with the year they were admitted and the firm they practise from. If a name returns nothing, that does not by itself mean the person is not a lawyer — see the scope note on this page — but it does mean you should ask them which firm they practise at and check that firm's own listing.
- What does the year of admission tell me?
- It is the date the Bar records for admission as an advocate & solicitor, so it gives you years in practice. The roll on this site runs from 1953 to 2026. It is a measure of experience, not of quality, and we do not rank anyone by it.
- Why does the listing show a law school or “CLP”?
- The Bar records the qualification a lawyer entered practice through. For many it is a university law degree; for many others it is the Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP), the qualifying examination taken by graduates of overseas and non-accredited law degrees. Both are ordinary routes to the Malaysian Bar.
- What is the YBGK label on some listings?
- Yayasan Bantuan Guaman Kebangsaan is the national legal aid foundation. The Bar records which lawyers are on its panel — 1,545 of the lawyers listed here are. It is a fact about their legal aid work, not a rating.
- Does this cover lawyers in Sabah and Sarawak?
- No. This directory is built from the Malaysian Bar's roll, which covers the states of West Malaysia plus the federal territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan — 14 in total. Advocates in Sabah and in Sarawak are admitted and rolled separately, by the Sabah Law Society and the Advocates Association of Sarawak, and are not included here.
- Is this an official Malaysian Bar service?
